Write more in twenty minutes than you did all week
A sprint is a timed writing session with a word goal, a clock, and — if you want it — other writers racing you to the finish.Start one solo in five seconds, or drop a join code in your Discord and fill a room. Every word is counted, ranked, and saved to your streak.

How a sprint works
Three decisions, then you write. The whole setup takes about five seconds.Set a clock and a goal
Pick a duration — 10, 20, 30 minutes — and a word target. Or skip the target and just race the clock.
Write in your project
Sprints run inside a WritingHabit project, so every word you type counts itself as you go.
Bank the result
Words, WPM and placement land on your streak, your project and the leaderboard — and in a result card you can post.
Four ways to sprint
Same timer, four very different kinds of pressure.Time sprints
You against the clock. Set the timer, hit start, and write until it stops. The quietest mode and the one most writers live in daily.
- Daily goal and stretch goals count sprint words automatically
- Focus mode hides everything except the clock and the page
- WPM and projected completion date update as you go

Monster battle
Your words are damage. Every sentence knocks health off the monster, and if the timer runs out before it drops, the monster wins.
- Pick your opponent — goblins, wolves, minotaurs, dragons
- Stalling costs you health, so momentum matters
- Wins and losses both make very good screenshots

Team battle
Split the room into teams and pool the words. Slow writers still matter, which is why this is the mode courses and classrooms keep coming back to.
- Auto-assign teams or set them yourself in the waiting room
- Team totals and individual contributions both tracked
- Results post as a single scoreboard you can share

Built for the people who bring others along
Run sprints for a Discord server, a paid cohort or a classroom — one room, one code, everyone's words counted in WritingHabit.Discord announcements
Point a webhook at your server and WritingHabit posts when a sprint opens and again with the final scoreboard. Nobody has to babysit an announcement channel.
Public or private
Public sprints are listed for anyone to join. Private sprints need the code — the right setting for a paid cohort or a class of students.
Teams that include everyone
Team battles pool word counts, so a nervous first-time writer still contributes to a win. Fastest way to get a quiet group participating.
Progress you can point at
Group leaderboards and per-writer stats show who is showing up and who is stalling — useful in a course, honest in a classroom.
Common questions
Do I need a project to sprint?
Yes. Sprints run inside one of your projects, so the words you write during a sprint land on the manuscript they belong to.
Where do my words get counted?
In the WritingHabit editor. Write in your project and the sprint counts as you type — nothing to paste, nothing to report at the end.
Can other people see my writing?
Never. Sprints share counts, not text. Your draft stays yours, and you can mask your profile so even your name shows as Private.
How many people fit in a sprint?
As many as you want to invite. Free-for-all and team battles have no cap — a writing partner, a Discord server, or a whole class.
Is any of this free?
All four sprint modes are free right now. We expect to add limits to the free tier later on, but anything you run today costs nothing.
What if I lose a monster battle?
You keep every word you wrote and suffer a defeat at the hands of an imaginary foe. That is the whole penalty.
